Not a lot of detail is used, but none is wasted and emotion is portrayed beautifully here.

Totally and completely hooked. The strength of the story comes from the solid, likable characters, and the charming, engaging illustrations. I look forward to more volumes from this series with anticipation. I am sold and look forward to reading the rest of this amazing narrative. Kou Yaginuma takes his sci-fi premise seriously, and he treats his characters with warmth and intelligence. Strongly recommended. Alle Produktbeschreibungen. To view it, click here. Ah, so part of Marika's dark secret is that she's ill. This volume was pretty tough to follow as well, but I think I have it figured out.

Except for the mystery of whether the girl Mr. Lion was friends with as a child is or isn't Marika. I'm certain it must not be her, but wildly curious about how an identical looking girl with an identical illness might appear in two different decades. I kind of wish the author hadn't gone "consumptive analog" with the disease in question, but oh well. Maybe it Ah, so part of Marika's dark secret is that she's ill. Maybe it hasn't been done to death in Japanese literature the way it has in Western literature. Also interested in the introduction of the new orphan love interest?!

Clearly Asumi and he have a close emotional connection. I'm interested to see how that will play out, given that he is opposed to the rocket program. He's not likely to change Asumi's mind, so Wondering whether Marika will complete survival training. It doesn't seem likely, if she even survives at all. Asumi and her classmates are about to start their second year but they have one last test. The book starts with a present day friendship brewing between Asumi and an orphan boy who shares her love of outer space. He was orphaned by the Lion crash and feels compelled to act as if he's anti space exploration, even though he secretly loves rockets. Their friendship is pa Twin Spica Volume 05 by Kou Yaginuma has two plot threads: a three day training challenge and puppy love friends, past and present. Their friendship is paralleled with a flashback romance between Mr.

Lion and the mother? It explains the girl's love of space and gives insight to how frail she might actually be. Mostly though the book is about survival training. The kids are dropped into the forest and have only a few days to figure out where they are and find their way to the rendezvous. Although it isn't stated outright, it's implied that if they don't make it by the deadline, they won't make it to the next year of school. The book ends casting doubt on whether Asumi will be able to get to the finish line in time.

Dec 19, Emkoshka rated it really liked it Shelves: , japan , translated , illustrated , school , science-fiction , friendship. This is my favourite volume so far. We get to learn more about cute dark-haired generic manga hero Kiriu and hang out with his sassy little orphan pals. The latest astronaut training challenge - being bundled into an escape pod then dropped in the middle of the forest - makes for gripping reading as Asumi tries her hand at survival skills.

And there's a beautiful extended stretch of backstory involving the child Mr Lion and Marika building a rocket fort together. Sep 08, Lara rated it really liked it Shelves: read-in , science-fiction , space , young-adult , manga-manhwa , libraried. Probably my favorite volume so far, so now I'm determined to try and track down the rest of the series, or at least get my hands on the anime or live action version!
